Every June, the 80th-annual Prineville Rockhound Pow Wow takes over the Crook County Fairgrounds — dealers, displays, and guided dig sites all in one place.
The main Prineville Reservoir (separate from Ochoco) is the regional hub for powerboating, waterskiing, and wakeboarding. Warm water, consistent winds, and a full-service marina make it a natural day trip from the property.
The Ochoco Reservoir corridor is a documented wintering area for bald eagles, with sightings common from the shoreline and surrounding ridgelines. Bring binoculars — November through February is peak season.
One of Oregon's most beloved PRCA rodeos, held every June alongside the Western Days Festival — 150+ vendors, a parade through town, and thousands of visitors. Every summer, up to 1,000 astronomers converge on the Ochoco National Forest — widely considered the darkest skies of any major star party in the contiguous United States. The retreat puts you 45 minutes from one of the most extraordinary amateur astronomy events in the world.
